XBall is a fast-paced, hyper-athletic form of 5-on-5 paintball. The format was first introduced in The formats are often regarded as a more strategic style of paintball.
Scoring is more complex, with points awarded for flag pulls, flag hangs, and bodies alive. Hyperball is a high-intensity style of paintball played in a smaller, confined space. It was pretty cool. The coaching really moves the game a long wuite a bit. Instead of playing conservatively, players advance quicker because they know they're not gonna get lit up making their move. Not to mention the fact that there's lots more bunkering involved in X.
I really think this is the way Paintball will get to TV. The only thing I don't like about it are all of the restrictions. Team entry fees are supposed to be astronomical and there are restrictions about playing only X-Ball and nothing else or some CRAP like that I guess everyone wants their piece of the pie. Well I watched a morning of it at MGO and have decided that you either love it or hate it. I'm in the hate it category. If that's the way paintball makes it to TV well. Anyway it's airball with more bunkers and yelling from the sidelines.
Sure they keep up with points differently but so what. Any advantages that a team or individual gets from taking a bunker with out the other team knowing it disappears cause somebody on the sideline will yell it out. I can't count how many times I watched a guy slide into the snake with NO body on the other side seeing it only to get lit up cause somebody on the sidelines hollered where the guy was.
